For the first time in a while, German industry orders were lower than expected and declined toward previous month in July. One has to bear in mind that the Euro was considerably lower in June. Nordic markets lost some ground but pared the losses somewhat late in the session. In the US, the grapevine is spouting, that Obama shall try another one of his instant fixes.

Nokia advanced sharply in the morning on news of analyst upgrades, business phone speculations and on Pamela’s lingerie. Boliden also welcomed analysts’ upgraded recommendations. By gauge of Air-France KLM, SAS and Finnair reporting their august numbers, the fast growth in airline travel seemed to hit a rough spot in the month. Stora Enso is shutting down a newsprint machine in Germany. Kemira invests in new factory in Nanjing, China and forms a joint venture with IVRCL in India.
