The Kremlin said that Russian President Dmitri Medvedev signed the bill to restrict beer sales starting from January 1st 2013. Sales will be restricted from 23.00 to 08.00. Sidewalk kiosks and trains stations can no longer sell beer at all after the law takes effect. Much of beer sales have been coming from such places as of late as beverages containing more alcohol were banned from being on sale in the aforementioned places earlier on.
European breweries took a small dent from this expected development, much of the recent damage to breweries shares has already been done in anticipation of the move. The market leader Carlsberg A/S (OMX: CARL A, OMX: CARL B) naturally has been taking the biggest hit and was down around 1% today.
