ABB Group (OMX: ABB, SIX: ABBN, NYSE: ABB) got an order worth around 1 billion USD from transmission grid operator TenneT to supply a power link connecting offshore North Sea wind farms to the German mainland grid. The order is the largest power transmission order in ABB’s history. Previously ABB has scored two orders of the same kind, 800 MW Dolwin 1 link order last year and BorWin1 project before that.
The offshore HVDC system to be deploeyd will be world’s largest; over 900 megawatts and when completed it can supply wind energy to more than 1.5 million households. ABB will do the whole process from designing to installation of the offshore platform and the converter stations as well as land and sea cable systems. The offshore network is scheduled to be in operation in 2015. ABB was down slightly for the day.
