Norway’s National Security Authority Nasjonal Sikkerhetsmyndighet (NSM) said the other day that large Norwegian firms have been targeted by hackers in a sophisticated and continuing manner in a big case of industrial espionage. The attackers have carefully selected the individuals and were able to steal information through viruses spread from tailor-made emails.
The attacks are classified as extremely serious and are under investigation from various bodies. Industrial secrets and information regarding contract negotiations have been stolen along with usernames and passwords enabling further access with energy sector and defence firms in particular being targeted. Potential damage in lost contracts and in enabling technological catch-up is immense. BBC carried the news today here.
