Finnair planes cannot take off in time

Majority of Finnair’s (OMXH: FIA1S) planes are currently grounded worldwide due to inability to receive customer and weight data. According to local media reports, the company blames a glitch in worldwide Amadeus Check-in system for this. The problem was detected under two hours ago and is currently under inspection.

Outages in the global check-in system have been happening with increasing frequency as of late. Airlines have often had to resort back to manual ticket issuance. Some other companies such as Air Berlin and British Airways have also communicated that the glitch is causing them some problems.

***UPDATE 19.07 LOCAL TIME***

The problem appears to be solved now. Delays of up to 1.5 hours can still be expected on Finnair flights until tomorrow. Costs incurred by the company will be limited and result mainly from expectation that increased number of luggage will be left behind.
