Chinese media again brought up furthering investments in the Nordic region upon answering its critics on Arctic research mission. Government newspaper China Daily wrote that while China as a country below the Arctic circle has no special interests in prospecting the Arctic area, it would be reasonable to speed up its trade relations and investments in North European countries.
After Russia and Norway settled their territorial disputes and signed a marine border agreement in the Barents Sea, interest in the development of the region has picked up considerably. In addition to untapped natural resources, the Northern Pass Sea route is seen as more viable going forward. There is also a lot of lobbying going on in regards to placement of a potential natural gas pipeline from Norway into the Barents Sea.
