Marine Harvest planning salmon feed company

Marine Harvest (OSE: MHG) has made an agreement with Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Nofima and Norwegian agricultural feed producer Felleskjøpet Rogaland Agder (FKRA), which is a part of Norwegian agricultural cooperative Felleskjøpet. These agreements enable the establishment of a leading Norwegian salmon feed company with up to 500 000 tonnes of salmon feed produced annually.

The agreement with (FKRA) gives the new company access to formulation technology and quality control methods. The Nofima agreement gives access to leading fish nutrition and raw material compositions researchers. Feed costs are about 50% of the production costs in salmon farming and good quality is important for fish health.

Both agreements are Letter Of Intent form and Marine Harvest says a firm decision to establish the company is yet to be made. This will be done after a detailed assessment phase of the project has been completed. The potential location is also up for discussion but the company already has agreements for land property with Valsneset Energi og Industriselskap AS in Bjugn municipality in Fosen region, Sør-Trøndelag county.
