Ericsson (OMX: ERIC B, NASDAQ: ERIC) has won an LTE radio access network contract from SoftBank Mobile in Japan. The Swedish telecommunications company will upgrade, expand and perforn systems integrations to the existing packet core network. The contract spans Japan’s largest cities Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, covering more than half of the entire population and about and some 70% of the total data and voice traffic.
Many LTE products are set to be launched in Japan this year and these are expected to contribute in demand for higher network speed and throughput. The contract is the largest for Ericsson from Japan and its 45th LTE/EPC contract overall. SoftBank Mobile is Japan’s third largest mobile operator. It is a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp (TYO: 9984, PINK: SFTBF)
