Newspaper Kaleva writes that several inhabitants nearby the Laiva gold mine in Raahe, Finland have left an investigation request to local police regarding the treatment of wastewater in the mine. They have made various claims concerning possible leakages. Raahe police spokesman told the newspaper, that a technical investigation team is looking into the claims.
Nordic Mines (STO: NOMI) vehemently denies any wrongdoing. It has previously communicated on the issues, trying to alleviate local concerns that were heightened further by sensationalist journalism on the matter. Until now no violations of the environmental permit have been established. It seems that there is a vocal group of people adamantly against the mine that tries to undermine the company constantly. Local Parliament members seem to be taking a keen interest in the issues as well.
