Norwegian farmers protest

The breakup of state subsidy negotiations has led to a series of protests by Norwegian farmers today. They are demanding a massive hike in support from the state, aided by their interest organizations The Norwegian Agrarian Association (Norges Bondelag) and The Norwegian Farmers and Smallholders Union (Norsk Bonde- og Småbrukarlag).

The organizations argue that the state needs to take responsibility to raise domestic food production and to provide a lofty payment to compensate for the adverse weather conditions and higher costs that means it is more expensive to farm in the country. The state undercut their demand by around two thirds, which led to an ending of the talks and the demonstrative actions today.
