Westcon Archer alliance changes competitive dynamic

Website offshore.no wrote last week that drilling services provider Archer (OSE: ARCHER) and Norwegian family-owned offshore, energy and maritime services provider Westcon Group are cooperating to create a one-stop shop for in a so called Archer & Westcon Alliance (AWA). The entire industry is adding capacity in anticipation of boom years with dozens of rig modifications and upgrades in form of SPS and classings expected still within this decade.

Westcon could also celebrate a large frame agreement with Transocean (SIX: RIGN, NYSE: RIG) for four rig classings likely worth hundres of millions for Transocean Searcher, Transocean Arctic, Polar Pioneer and Transocean Spitsbergen with the Bingo 3000 design semi-submersible Transocean Searcher already arriving in Ølen. It remains to be seen what kind of moves competing yards make.
