Finnish entrant into the 60th Eurovision song contest
to be held in Vienna, Austria towards the end of May
is Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (Pertti Kurikka's Name Day).
The punk music playing band consist in its entirity
of people with Down syndrome. Their song Aina Mun Pitää
("I always have to...") won by getting 36,2% of the popular
vote in the televoting, besting its closest rival Satic Circus
by over 10%.
Eurovision song contest has come to known
in a forum to raise social issues and other
controversial subjects. Just last year the
winner was an openly gay drag artist Conchita Wurst.
Members of Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät met at a workshop for the mentally
disabled. Their aim is to raise awareness for people with Down's Syndrome
