Danish shipping magnate Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller has passed away today at the age of 98, A.P. Moller – Maersk Group (OMX: MAERSK A, OMX: MAERSK B) said in a release. He ran the family business for decades and stayed as CEO until 1993 and Chairman until 2003 when he was 90 years of age. His last public appearance was just days ago at the Annual General Meeting.
In addition to his own direct shareholding, he still remained as the chairman at A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation, the A.P. Møller Relief Foundation, and the Maersk Employee Foundation, which combined have a clear majority of shares and votes in A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. He is also remembered as the first non-American member at the Board Of Directors of IBM.
