Skyways is bankrupt

Another regional budget airliner falls as Skyways Express Ab and its subsidiary City Airline Ab operating under the same brand have suspended payments and are asking to be declared bankrupt. Like in the case of Cimber Sterling, the owners no longer wish to finance the company. This is yet another twist in Ukrainian billionaire Igor Kolomoisky's dealings, who controlled this company as well, and it remains to be seen what the plan is here going forward. In the case of Cimber Sterling he later scooped in to buy a part of it back from the curator.

The carrier flew over 20 destinations in Sweden and in nearby countries such as Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Finland, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Great Britain. Almost 350 employees and 12 000 travellers are affected. Many have to find another means of transportation and in some cases the money may be lost. In total the two carriers have served upwards of a million customers per year. The company promises to give contact information on its website soon. Scandinavian Airlines SAS (OMX: SAS) exited ownership in 2010 and has today gained slightly in the stock exchange.
