Newspaper Turun Sanomat writes that STX Finland’s Turku shipyard is very close to landing a another massive order from Royal Caribbean Cruises (OSE: RCL, NYSE: RCL). The global cruise company received two record breaking ships worth a billion Euros each in Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas from the yard few years back. After the completion of the ships, RCL has ordered two smaller cruise ships from Meyer Werft GmbH.
Oasis and Allure of the Seas each resulted in around 12 000 man years of labour. Turun Sanomat claims that Finnish governmental guarantees are a necessary condition for a possible order. Turku is also expecting a decision from TUI Cruises, a joint venture of TUI AG (FWB: TUI) and Royal Caribbean, on whether it will use its option for a second cruise ship following an order last year on a near 300 metre ship that is providing around 5500 man years or labour at the Turku yard until 2014.
Man years, not hours :D
