Finnish telecommunications firm Elisa(OMX: ELI1V) has started blocking its users from accessing Pirate Bay- BitTorrent downloading website after execution authority issued an enforcement order concerning an earlier decision from the Helsinki District Court ordering Elisa to stop making copyright-infringing material available. Elisa has appealed to a higher court and classifies the act of censorship as temporary.
Finnish recording producers’ organization IFPI Finland ry is behind the initial complaint and was assisted by the copyright information and anti-piracy centre in Finland. Similar orders are being sought against other ISP providers in Finland (including TeliaSonera (OMX: TLSN) and DNA). The action is a part of the wider anti-piracy movement led by powerful entertainment industry interest groups.

Elisa Q2 2011
Finnish telecommunications company Elisa Corporation (OMXH: ELI1V) reported quarterly earnings yesterday. Revenue was 378 million Euro and EBITDA 121 million, meaning an EBITDA margin of 32%. Elisa earned 29 cents per share for its owners. The number of mobile subscriptions grew by 92 500 during the second quarter where as fixed broadband subscriptions were down by 3000.
Elisa says that competitive situation remains challenging but smartphone popularity coupled with the good image that Elisa’s 3G network maintains has brought continued growth. Elisa’s 4G network is now available for mostly corporate customers in southern Finland. Company CEO Veli-Matti Mattila also touted that Elisa was the first in the world to bring its multiparty and multidevice HD video conferencing solution Bringio to market.
Elisa plans to continue to invest in both networks. The company maintains its full-year outlook. The stock has traded mildly positive after that report. More information is available here.
