Nokia CEO Stephen Elop (OMX: NOK1V) appeared in Arto Nyberg talk show and said Nokia is back up and running. He said Microsoft partnership was not even thought about when he joined Nokia. He elaborated the leadership looked at different options and came to the conclusion that entering a partnership with Microsoft was the best way to differentiate in the market. Mr. Elop also said that Nokia headquarters will remain in Espoo at least as long as he is the CEO.
Elop felt that in the beginning of the product launch such as Lumia, the feedback they get from people when they get their hands on the product is most important. He categorized the feedback as overwhelmingly positive. He gave no sales guidance but said that Nokia needs to focus on the buying experience and the appearance of Nokia in phone shops, perhaps addressing some of the concerns that have surfaced as of late considering early sales.
Elop did not disclose anything about upcoming product launches, but the expressions in the interview certainly hinted that a tablet product is in the pipeline. The CEO did not seem too concerned about the short term share price but more in delivering long-term growth.
