National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB has been confirmed to have bought most of the assets of bankrupt car maker Saab Automobile. The company was specifically created for this purpose and plans to build electric vehicles at the Trollhättan plant. The idea seems to be to hire perhaps couple hundred workers to begin with. Companies behind National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB are Hong Kong and Japan based, with the ability to tap into expertise from both China and Japan available. The company is headed by Swedish-Chinese businessman Kai Johan Jiang.
The most recent Saab models were not part of the deal, something which was a major sticking point back when Saab was still trying to avoid going belly up, and the new company aims to develop electrical vehicle based on the older Saab 9-3 model, which is also a better fit to develop an electric vehicle on. The most likely initial focus is on the Chinese market.
