EFTA and Norway Competition Authorities to investigate Telenor practises in Norway

Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor (OSE: TEL) notified the stock exchange today on the opening of an investigation by The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) and the Norwegian Competition Authority against the company regarding possible abuse of dominant market position and/or possible anti-competitive practices in violation of the EEA Agreement. ESA said it has made surprise inspections on Telenor premises today. Neither Telenor nor ESA would comment on the matter further besides saying an investigation is needed to establish the facts.

This investigation pertains to mobile communication services including calls, messages and other services on both wholesale and retail level in Norway. Wholesale market means Telenor-owned networks, to which it sells access for other companies, while retail market equals direct end-user sales. In wholesale segment a dominant market position could be abused in pricing and retail customers could be discriminated in various ways. Maximum fine for such abuses is 10% of annual sales.
