Volvo China plans go ahead

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group founder Li Shufu told Sveriges Television that its subsidiary Volvo Cars needs to tweak its design to cater to Chinese customers, where the brand’s future lies. He said that particularly the interior is currently not fit for the Chinese market. He dubbed the car currently as too Scandinavian and not luxurious enough. His comments are seen as undercutting Scandinavian leaders of the firm and its Swedish operations and design.

Volvo is currently recruiting in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, where the firm being operated as a separate entity. According to Nordic Stocks sources, interest has been huge with applicants wrangling for a position even in the pre-screening. It was somewhat surprising that the company chose the said city for its first plant in China, which is more known for its electronics industry unlike regional competitor Chongqing that is known as an auto industry hub, but it goes to show how electronics and design now play a bigger role in automobiles.
